Last night we had the first ever Lebanon area Photographer Girls' Nite at Painturo's! (Painturo's is one of my family's favorite places, and if you haven't been there, check them out!) I had for a long time wanted to get to know the other professional photographers in my area, and I finally just emailed them all and said, "Let's get together!" Not everyone could make it, of course, but there were 5 of us and we had fun, I think. We stayed and chatted for so long that the sweet employees finally asked us to leave... we lost all track of time! I had a blast, ladies! So here's what happens when 5 photogs try to take a picture of themselves:

Or, you could send in your story of why the grandparents you want to honor with a Granparent's Day session are just so special to you, along with a snapshot of them. The pictures must be snapshots original to you, not professional portraits. Deadline to enter is this Friday, August 29. If your grandparent(s) are chosen, then they'll receive a session compliments of Yet To Be, along with a free 8x10... (a $100 value).

You know what's just around the corner? Christmas! I know, I know... I couldn't believe it when I saw Christmas being brought out at Big Lots the other day! The Wilson County Fair isn't even over yet, and I'm blogging about Christmas Cards.

Just wanted you to have a sneeky peek at some of the cards I'm offering this year. I love these designs from a very talented designer- the red and blue layers are interchangeable. I love that red & chocolate combo for my family's card this year! The last one of my boys looks really sweet, don't you think? (Thanks to Alison Bynum for my family pics!)

Ready for a good story? Well, this one qualifies for a "doozy", I'll assure you! Ready? Here we go. It's a hot summer day. I'm up early, as I'm preparing for a wedding in Cookeville, TN. I grabbed my coffee, sipping carefully as I walk into the office, careful to not wake my sleeping children. As I was counting batteries & going thru mental checklists, I heard what I was just sure was a small cat outside my office door. I'm doubtful, thinking that it would be just like my oldest boy to go outside and make meow-ing noises at 6:15 am. (But hadn't I just seen him asleep?) I carefully opened the door to check it out, and to my amazement saw the tiniest little kitten huddled under the bench by the office door! She was just meow-ing away and I tried to get her to come to me. Of course, she thought about it, and she darted for the "flower" bed (more like a "weed bed") at the side of our house. I tried to coax her out of there, and where does she go? Right up in my van's engine. So I go right back into the office, to the kitchen for more coffee, and grab a saucer and milk. Even heat the milk a bit. Put that saucer by the van, sit on the bench and wait. And wait. And wait. Mike came out to wait, too. Finally, we pop the hood, and look for her. We see her! And she shrinks further away. WAY down in the engine. So we go inside and figure she'll get out. Three hours later, I'm loading the van. No sign of kitty. My "assistant" for the day, Heather Graviss, came to meet at the house. We hop in the van, take off for Cookeville, assured by Mike that the kitten has most likely gotten out and run far, far away by now. Heather & I review to-do's for the wedding, go over some notes, and get ready to get off the interstate, trying to decide where to eat. Hitting the exit ramp, we hear "Meooowww?" It was the most pitiful, tiny, baby meow ever! And she wouldn't quit! It sounded like she was in the dash, right there with us! Yes, of course, we're freaking out a little. Call Mike. No help, he doesn't answer. Call my Daddy. Really no help. My daddy has never liked cats, ever since the calico he brought home for me when I was three, Sandy, clawed him up- why? I dunno. Anyway, no help. Heather & I need a potty break, so we pull into Chick-Fil-A. In the (rather crowded) restroom, we were discussing the kitty's plight, which prompted several concerned women to exit the potty & inform their husbands we need help. A funny side note is that when I asked the counter clerk for a box for the cat, he gave me a chicken nugget box... Anyway, to wrap the story up, I'll just tell you that the couples from Memphis and Lexington, KY couldn't get the kitty out. Although we couldn't get her out, but we did manage to get some of Heather G.'s sandwich to the kitten via three plastic straws attached together. She was so hungry, she tried to eat the straw! No one had any tools, and we weren't getting anywhere. I had to shoot a wedding in less than 60 minutes, and needed to do something. The couple from Memphis were self-professed cat-lovers, and really had their heart set on taking her home. I just had to dash all of their hopes, telling them that if this cat makes it out alive, she is definitely coming home with me. I mean, it was too good of a story for her not to be coming home with me, right?!?

I had the bright idea to find a car dealership or shop to help us out. We went to Cumberland Toyota in Cookeville. I asked for a mechanic to help us out, and got not one, but a whole crew! The first one aptly informed me that she was in the "fender well" of the vehicle. (I just said "she's in that part right there over the tire.") This guy was such a softy! He was coaching the mechanics to hurry, because he couldn't stand the kitty sounding so pitiful! Heather G. holding the kitty...So, we got her out. Heather G., me, and a whole host of others. What do you do with a stowaway cat when you've got eight hours of wedding photography coverage to provide? You stop at Dollar Tree & get her canned cat food & a water bowl, and hope that she'll just be happier in the Chick-Fil-A box than in the fender well of your minivan.

So imagine the bride's surprise when we walk in the room of the church where she & the bridesmaids were getting ready with the kitty in the box... I started with, "Well, I've got a funny story, and a favor to ask you..." Everyone thought she was just great! She stayed in the van for the reception, though. (Don't worry, it was much cooler than in the heat of the day when she first made it out.)

And this is me and Heather G. at the end of the day. Thanks, Heather, for a fun time! You'll never forget this! =) So, we got home at about 10:45 or 11 that night. The next day, my boys christened the kitten "Sally Fender Wamble". "Sally" because she was near the wheel well of the car, and Sally from the movie Cars loved that place Wheel Well. "Fender" because the mechanics said the correct term was the "fender well". And Wamble, because well, you know, Luke (my youngest) says she's the boys new "little sistuhr".

So, as I wrap up this post, Fender is laying beside me. She's been a [mostly] sweet cat, and she's certainly good for a few laughs. Never having had an inside cat, I'm learning a lot. Like, you know cats teethe like babies? And oh wow, is she skittish... but, then if I lived with three little boys, I would be, too! Oh, and she probably won't be an inside cat forever, either. I just have to get her fixed first... don't want any more stowaways tagging along for photoshoots.

Nope, I'm not a cat person. Just a Fender person.

Once Upon A Time...

The title of this blog post is "Once Upon A Time" for such a simple reason: my time with this Lebanon family was just enchanting! I had such a great time with this sweet family! Mr. L. and Miss E. welcomed me with smiles as soon as I came in the door. I love it when kids lead me to their room. Look what little Miss E. had in her room- her very own princess balcony with French doors... it made me think of Juliet's monologue! You know how I say that I love to tell a story with pictures? This one's one of my favorites. I love when clients use their imaginations to tell special stories with family heirlooms, certain locations, etc. Thanks, K. for all of your ideas! You're a great mommy, and I hope you treasure these pictures as much as you have hoped. *hugs*- Heather

This family lives out of town a bit, and they live just next door to both sets of grandparents. How neat is that? This little brother and sister live on land that has been in the family a long time. I knew ahead of time that we'd be trekking over the family's land in their golf cart. (Fun!) We were headed to the pond for pictures, and especially to the bridge that L. & E.'s great grandpa built. We drove up little hills, thru trees, and as we approached the pond, there was a bunny to greet us! A big crane was sitting in the water, shaded by the trees, and I have never seen bigger frogs outside of a zoo! I felt like I was in a Beatrix Potter book... and I just love Beatrix Potter! And don't you just love hummingbird vine?

K. had told me she wanted some shots of L. on Pa's rock. This is the spot where (I think I have this right) his great-grandpa fished as a boy.

Miss E. is sitting in a little rocker that was Miss E.'s great-great-grandmother's rocking chair, and she's "reading" her great-grandmother's Bible.Miss E. dressed up in true girly fashion in my little fairy tutu. So sweet!

Morgan ~ Senior Session

I am so loving having these sweet seniors to work with! They are just super! While I've been impressed with all of these seniors, I was so glad to get to work with Morgan, who is my first senior at Wilson Central High School in Lebanon. My husband Mike remembers when Morgan was just three years old... boy, do we feel old! Morgan's parents were good friends of my husband's before we were married, and that was even in a different town... it's so neat that our paths have crossed again. Sweet Sweet BeBe ~ Six Month Session

How many times can I say how much I love my job?! This was such a fun session with Baby E. and her mom and grandmother. This was the first time I've done those "flower pot" pictures, and although I generally think that those pictures are over-done, it seemed to suit this sweet girl! These were all done at our sunroom & backyard "studio". I love that these have that "vintage" look.This one reminds me of baby portraits from the 50's... like in a magazine!

Or maybe the Gerber baby? =)So many times my clients worry about what happens when their child is sleepy... many times, we just let them take a cat nap, as you'll see below! It makes for the most adorable pictures. I love those sweet expressions & those sweet little cheeks! Sweet Baby Boy ~ Lebanon, TN

Everyone has a story... just like you! This is one of my favorite shoots to date. I've been really looking forward to this one for a while, as these clients are from Indiana! This beautiful young mommy asked for a Gift Certificate fromYet To Be for a birthday gift from her parents... so it's been in the works for a while now. We had made plans, but spring rains had off-set our plans a bit. B. decided that we should do her son's session at her parents' home, where she had grown up. What a magical way to share your memories with your family! I was so hoping that you would want to do it there! =)

As a photographer, it's my job to tell a story. The story of you. Driving up to this shoot I knew I would be in love with the setting. One of the big things on my life-long To-Do list is to own a sweet place like this one day. I love forgetting that I'm anywhere near a town... there is something magical to me about these images, and I'm so very blessed that I was asked to do this shoot! When I was working on these tonight, I was caught up in dreamy thoughts of Beatrix Potter, English countrysides, fairy-princes, and toadstools.... So, see if you get lost in the story, too...

At Long Last... Our Family's Session with Alison Bynum

You may have heard me say that I don't have pictures of my own kids... well, now I do!!! This past Saturday morning we met up with the very talented & super sweet Alison Bynum of Smyrna out at Fiddler's Grove in Lebanon for our very first family photo shoot. Alison is so sweet, and the boys did really well with her. It's seems like such an oxymoron (is that how you spell that?) that photographers don't have a ton of pics of their kids... it's like the roofer's roof that always leaks! I'm so tickled with these sneaky peeks that Alison sent me... I soooo understand how my clients feel when they're just itching to see their pictures!!

Alison did a great job capturing the boys... they get along so well. Heaven help the person that ever picks on one of them... they'll have two others to deal with!We were almost done, but I wanted a pic of the boys with this old truck... and Alison graciously agreed!This is only one of the family pics we took. Can't wait to see the rest!Like our feet?My momma is gonna LOVE this one!Now I just had to post my man. Alison posted these on her blog, and said that Mike's grin looks like he's up to something. Not always the case, Alison... but you're right, it's that "boyish" grin... personally, I think he's such a hottie! Alison encouraged us to do what we do... that's usually getting close to each other. Alison grabbed a super-cute shot here- Oh, yeah, I'm sure ;-)For those of you wondering, the answer is, "Yes. I did take my camera." No, I didn't pull it out until the end, and I so stayed out of the way. I snagged this one of Alison at work.Is it just me, or does this look like a little teenager? There are lots of cool things to see at the Grove, but I enjoyed finding things like this-Thanks, Alison, for a great shoot! You're the best. At-Home One-Year Session in Mt. Juliet

Twins & Big Sister... Mt. Juliet Home Session

Remember my earlier post about asking a woman in Target if I could photograph her twin daughters? She actually contacted me to say yes! I was thrilled to capture these adorable twin girls (no they aren't identical) and their pretty big sister. Or, should I say- a Pretty, Big Girl and her adorable little sisters? Here are some of my favorite shots!

It was so much fun for me to watch the twins interact... most of the time, they played independently. While I edited, I was thinking of our time together, and how in tune to one another these sisters are. I'm pretty sure they have a telepathy thing going on... like in this image I'm pretty sure they're saying to each other "This woman put us on the dining room table! Can you believe we're up here and Mommy doesn't care?"

This shot is not a "typical" portrait. It reminded me of how very much my boys loved to play with blocks at this age. Fifteen month olds squat to do a lot... that doesn't last very long! Doesn't big sis just look so grown up?Ok, I just had to show you this one! Some little girls I photograph are just so prim & proper, and other girls are a little more "snips & snails"-- Like me! ;-) Heather

Ok, so I did something I *never* do this weekend! I approached a woman with twins in line at Target, and told her about Yet To Be's open model call for twins! Why do I never do this? Because people think I'm wack-0... I have a photographer friend named Heather Bookout who approached a person in Target, too, and I don't know if that woman called her, but this sweet lady contacted me today... which made me think: why not let you all know about the Twins/Multiples model call? SO... what does an open model call mean? It means that I'm offering a complimentary session (valued at $125) and a free 8x10 ($25) for the family who makes the cut. We prefer for your twins to be identical, but they don't have to be. And if you are pregnant with twins, we'll book your newborn session at no cost... and give you one set of birth announcements for free!!!

How do you get in? Send me your contact info, along with a snapshot of your kids (if available). We'll contact you for a phone consultation & set up the shoot, if you make the cut :) Depending on the response I get, we may have everyone make the cut! What's the catch? No catch. just a few thoughts

So this post doesn't have any pictures... it's just a few thoughts from me. One of my favorite movies ever is "You've Got Mail." I've watched it a lot, and never knew how to pm or chat... never wanted to. Years in youth ministry watching teens text and talk about chatting, and I never cared to learn. Not because I didn't care, I just would rather talk to someone face to face ;-)

I spent about three full hours on the computer last night with photographers from all over the country. Last May, Mike & I went to a conference at a photographer's studio & met the best people! The girls were great, and everyone was so willing to share. Much of the growth of my business is due to the wisdom that she & her team have shared with me. (and all of that is due to God's abundant blessing!) So anyway, this photog and her bunch have set up a forum, and we all keep in touch, bounce ideas off each other, encourage each other, etc. We had a "live chat" and I can until now honestly say that I've never been in a chat room in my life!!! So what makes this different?

We spent the night starting out talking about business, clients, marketing... and then the remarkable happened. We talked about our relationship with the Lord. Imagine: photographers from all walks of life, all over the country, all in different stages of life and business. And how did we end up on God and His love? I have no idea... I just know that we did. Because we could. Because we couldn't help it. The common denominator between us looks to be photography. But there's a greater love inside of us, and it's much bigger than any one of us...

I loved being pregnant. I mean, you know, not every day was fabulous, but as a general rule, I felt pretty good, and always felt like I looked pretty good. If you knew me pregnant and disagree with my feelings, please don't tell me! ;-) You may not feel that way, though. If you don't, consider a maternity session anyway. Whether you do your session with me, or another photographer, I think you'll be glad you did. Many years from now, you may wish you had, and you just can't get the time back! I didn't do maternity sessions with any of my three pregnancies... I do cherish the memories. I love helping clients to cherish their feelings forever with great images!

So here are some sneek peaks from the session I did Thursday. You two did just great, and these images aren't even my favorites! There are some GREAT ones, and I can't wait til your proofing session... I really think you'll like them!!! ~Heather

I am just so blessed! You've probably heard me say how priveledged I feel to be able to do what I do... how blessed I am to have the best jobs in the world (Christian, wife, mom, photographer...) But let me tell you, this family makes me feel just great! Enjoy your sneek peak, family! You guys are the greatest!

I pulled up to their house to do their shoot, and before I was out of the car, this little missy pounced on me with a big ol' hug! How cool! Then she proceeds to tell me that she's lost her first tooth, just now. How proud is she?

Now, ya know, I tell all my clients that if we haven't had fun during our time together, then I didn't do my job. So when she brought me bunny ears, and said I should wear them, then I had to say "Absolutely! Can I wear pink?"We even manage to arrange an almost "quiet" moment for dad & mom...Let me just tell you moms of pre-teen boys... we CAN get some amazing shots, and these are just for you, Mandy.... I told you so! ;-)

A Special Maternity Session...

A Couple of Sweet Kids, Don't Ya Think?

Valentine's Day is tomorrow, and what am I sharing with you? One of the sweetest weddings I've done... don't they look just so in love? Aren't they cute kids? The more weddings I shoot, the older I feel. I often wonder: Did I look that young when I got married? And then I answer myself: "yeah, I probably did look young to my wedding photographer..." ;-) Oh, and let me give a quick shout out to Melissa, who tagged along on this one! Girls Nite Out

I know you may think I'm a little silly for blogging about this, but girlfriends are the best...

Last night we all spent the night at one of the girl's Mom & Daddy's house (just like we came home from college!) and ordered pizza (like in college), went shopping (just like college). Hmm... ya know, some things just never change! What's better than shopping with your giggling, munching, shopping, and Olive Garden with old friends?

This bunch of girls are so precious to me, and I'm so blessed with many good friends. I'm humbled that I'm so blessed to have friends that have shared weddings, births, and deaths together. I'm honored that God is just so good. I'm doing friend Hannah's maternity pics soon, so check back on the blog for those ;-) In the pic: Hannah, me, Kendy, Cathy, & Jill..... (we look good, girls!) At-Home Shoot with Olivia

What a fun shoot! We met up Monday at Olivia's house to do an at-home shoot while she was out for MLK day. Many people think their home is not "photogenic"-- and I always reply, "But it's not about your house, it's about the home you share and the love in it..." And that sounds cheesy, doesn't it? But I'm right. See how this gal's personality shines thru these images? Kids are much more comfortable in their own home - they're just themselves! For 2008, we're trying to encourage clients to consider more at-home shoots. Home is where the heart is! ;-) Now, if you've had a photo shoot with me, or if you're planning one (hint), you know that I advise parents to put their kids in comfortable clothes that are modern, classic, and that let the child's personality shine. Isn't Olivia's outfit oh-so-cute? This girl gets it honest, I think, because her mom makes and sells many uber-sweet kids clothes. Lots of these would be cute for portraits! Fourteen Bookings Later... The show at Five Oaks

The Lebanon Junior Women's Club sponsored their First Annual Women's Show at Five Oaks Country Club today. The show benefitted Wilson Books from Birth. When I was asked to sign up months ago to participate, I knew it was a great opportunity. I knew I'd enjoy meeting the folks who come by our booth, but I never thought we'd have eleven pre-paid bookings, along with two newborn sessions booked, and one four-generational portrait session booked!!! I couldn't be happier. My dear friend Autumn stayed with me ALL day, (bless her heart!), and was a God-send. At times it took both of us to make appointments and answer questions.

I'm posting a picture of our booth today. Autumn and I had a picture made- but it didn't turn out at all. My little point-and-shoot gave us a "data not found" message... What?!? I only know I didn't take the photo ;-)

Congratulations Stephanie & Chad!!

One of the best parts of this job is meeting so many different people and getting to know them. I feel so blessed that people trust me to photograph their family's memories! And along the way, I make lots of neat friends. This past Saturday was Chad and Stephanie's wedding at Oaklands in Murfreesboro. Thanks, you two, for choosing me! Your wedding was such fun, and so sweet, and just lovely! It's one of my favorites yet... Chad and best man Drew served together in Iraq...Can't you just feel how much he loves her? It's written all over his face.

All I Want For Christmas

While we were at the beach for fall break, I kept telling the boys, "All Momma wants for Christmas is a really good picture of our family. Can't we do that before we go? It would make me so happy! PLEASE?" Many, many people make this comment to me all the time: "Wow, I bet you have great pictures of your kids..." Wrong! While I haven't met a kid yet that didn't give me really good pictures, MY children just say things like, "Aw, Momma, just put the camera down and let's play ball, ok?" So, for those of you who've doubted me on this, here's the proof!

104 Degrees Bridal Session

Here's a sneek peak of Friday afternoon's bridal shoot with my bravest bride ever--when I got in the car to leave, I noticed the thermometer said 104! Bless her heart, I think if I were in a wedding dress, I'd have just wilted! Isn't she beautiful? For those of you wondering, this shoot is at beautiful Oaklands Mansion.

My First Bridal Show

Just got home from my first bridal show! It was a good experience for me, and I may do it again. The store that had invited me told me to expect 100-150 brides to visit my booth. Guess what the total attendance to the show was? FIVE brides!

The store managers were just so embarrassed, but I assured them it was ok... I set two consultations and I'm also positive that one will book right then and there. So, I guess it was pretty successful for me: a free booth at a bridal event, and two, maybe three weddings as a result (God-willing!).

Jellybean is Here!!

Little Liam was born yesterday morning, and we were right there to meet him! He weighed in at 6 pounds, 12 ounces, and measures 17 inches long. He is absolutely beautiful, and looks so healthy. As far as I'm concerned, he's one of the most perfect looking babies I've ever seen! He is doing well right now, and is hanging on!

Liam's heart does have a defect, and he will face surgery very soon. His cardiologist is VERY pleased to report that Liam's heart problems, although serious, are nowhere near as serious as the doctors first thought. Liam's heart is no longer (as first thought) requiring open-heart surgery, but rather a procedure that will go thru Liam's side. Praise God for his presence! Many prayers have been answered, and we're confident they'll continue to be!

With Liam's mom recovering in the main hospital, and Liam's dad, older sisters and grandmother trying to all go back and forth between Mom and Liam, I had the priviledge of sitting with Liam (alone!) in the NICU for several hours.

I've never been in a NICU before. I'm in awe of the way those wonderful people take care of those babies. I got to see first hand how protective the nurses and doctors are of those babies. What a blessing... I'm thankful that Liam's family asked me to be there.

It's possible that I'll get to visit those little sweeties in the NICU long after Liam's discharged. I've been accepted to the American Child Photographers Charity Guild, an organization of photogs who can share their talent with families who have a child in serious condition.
